Technical Difficulties

Hello all! This little post is just to inform you that my laptop is not working right now, so it might be a bit before regular blog updates continue. I myself am doing just fine, I just have no easy way to get online. Hopefully I’ll be able to get things sorted quickly, in the meantime safe travels and happy trails everyone.

There’s No Forcing Art

April 10, 2016 |

Every now and then, I sit in front of the computer to write a blog post, and nothing comes. Sometimes pushing through the resistance works. Sometimes having patience and trying again later works. And sometimes, nothing does. I’ve always viewed blogging as an art form. You can’t force art. If you try, the final product…

Sometimes, I struggle to do things that seem so easy to others, and I feel frustrated. Sometimes, I look at what everyone else has and I don’t, and I feel jealous. Sometimes, I think of how much time I waste trying to put it all together, and I feel angry. Sometimes, I worry that my…

Taking A Break

May 6, 2016 |

The short of the matter is things didn’t work out with with the rescue dog. She’s a good dog, the problem was mine. I feel really awful about the whole situation, and I need a break from the internet for a while to heal. I won’t be responding to comments on this post and will…

Your doing the library computer thing I bet. I have a computer repair background too. Be sure to check into newer used or new computers. It sounds like you might be near the end on that one. Check the value of yours on ebay. They can sell for decent prices even broken. And…. my favorite computer rental store is Wallmart. 15 days return policy. :). I once returned 6 TV’s before I settled on the one that fit my motor home. That could hold you over a couple of months until you have the money to buy something.

We’ll see, other than the clock it started up just fine today.

    Hi Becky,

I know this message might not be read in a timely fashion, but I am a programmer and will gladly help if I can. Do you believe the problem to be hardware or software?

I spoke with the company’s customer service department yesterday. With a battery drain and BIOS update I managed to get it to turn on today, but it’s a temporary measure, it’s looking like I’ll need to send it somewhere for repairs.

Hardware. I’m getting a certain beep code when I turn it on (when I can get it to turn on) which means either my CMOS battery or my motherboard is failing. The CMOS battery is cheaper to repair but to get to it I’d need to remove the main battery, hard drive, memory sticks, keyboard, and palm rest – basically gut the laptop. It’s not something I feel comfortable doing myself, so no matter which the problem is I’ll be paying someone to fix it – assuming I can find the parts. Thanks for the offer though Richard!

        Hi Becky,

Depending on your needs, maybe replacing your laptop with a Chromebook would be the least expensive path.

And I have confidence you could do the repairs yourself, though motherboard swapping is a bit complex. Perhaps the Geek Squad at Best Buy can run diagnostics and pinpoint the exact issue. Then you know for certain what to buy and replace.
